Pre-AU22 Honors Requirements

The Honors Contract allows you to construct an especially challenging curriculum by incorporating strong course work, such as honors classes and 4000-level classes, throughout your program of study. When approved by the Arts and Sciences (ASC) Honors Committee, an Honors Contract admits you to candidacy for graduation with honors in the Arts and Sciences. If you complete your Honors Contract curriculum with a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on at least 60 graded semester credit hours at Ohio State, you will graduate with honors in the Arts and Sciences, which will be noted on your diploma and transcript.

Spring Semester of Your Second Year

Failure to submit the Honors Contract by the end of your second year may result in dismissal from the ASC Honors Program.  While you may reapply to the Honors Program if dismissed, you must do so no later than the end of your third year of study or the semester before you plan to graduate (whichever comes first) to be considered for graduation with honors in the Arts and Sciences.  Unless there are extenuating circumstances, an Honors Contract will not be accepted for review by the ASC Honors Committee after the third year of studyPriority deadline for the Honors contract this year is March 31, 2023If you turn it in by the end of March, it will receive priority review; however, it is not officially due until May 5.

Before submitting your Honors Contract to the ASC Honors Office, it should be signed by the departmental honors advisor(s) for your major(s) and any minors you choose to complete.  The online Honors Contract form (below) is editable, and you can save your information in it.  You may enter your information, print out the form, and take it to your departmental honors advisor(s) to be signed

Honors Contract Checklist

Many departments require honors versions of the major or minor for students intending to graduate with honors in the Arts and Sciences. Honors major and minor requirements vary by department, so you should plan to consult with your departmental honors advisors early in your program to ensure that all requirements are satisfied.

Are you planning to pursue more than one major?  If so, check out the information about multiple majors.

For a list of available minors and their basic requirements, see the Undergraduate Minors web site.  ***Please note that many minors have additional honors requirements that are not included in the information provided on the linked web site.  Consult the departmental honors advisor for a minor to be sure you are meeting all honors requirements.***

If you need to make a change to your Honors Contract, the Honors Contract may be revised through the approval of a Revision Form. Any changes to an Honors Contract that affect your major (or major prerequisites) must be approved by your major advisor (and when a change affects a minor, your minor advisor), as well as by the ASC Honors Committee. Revisions should be submitted for approval before you take the substituted class.  Changes that maintain or increase the strength of the program are routinely approved. If you have questions about a possible revision to the general education portion of your Honors Contract, please consult your ASC honors advisor.
